TechniData CSM (Chemicals Safety Management)

Software

TechniData CSM enables you to fuse Chemicals Safety Management with cost-efficiency. How?

We integrate Chemicals Safety Management with product safety, REACH, dangerous goods and label management modules into your existing business processes, making them a reliable element of your added value chain.

Our Chemicals Safety Management solution can offer you:

» Product safety

TechniData CSM enables companies to simplify and accelerate all processes relating to product safety. Employees can create new substances and preparations quickly and easily in the system. At the touch of a button, the system can deliver a recommendation for the regulatory classification of preparations, since TechniData also incorporates rules and regulations that facilitate automatic classification. This not only delivers massive time savings, but also makes the process more reliable than manual classification.

If required, the system can generate safety data sheets for all European countries, Canada, the U.S., Japan, Korea, China and Australia in a matter of minutes. The benefits for international companies are obvious. TechniData supports rules and regulations for various judicial areas worldwide and phrases in more than thirty languages. In addition, this regulatory data is also supplied worldwide. This means employees no longer have to endure the time-consuming process of compiling, reconciling and evaluating regulatory lists.

When the safety data sheet has been created, the system automatically sends it to the relevant customers. If a safety data sheet has to be adapted, it is automatically updated and re-issued to customers as a matter of course. This not only saves resources but also prevents legal repercussions.

» SAP REACH Compliance

TechniData and SAP offer chemicals companies and product manufacturers an integrated IT application based on SAP EH&S that enables them to satisfy the requirements set out in the European chemicals directive REACH efficiently. These companies can manage all the processes affected by REACH cost-effectively, including substance volume tracking, preregistration or creating the new safety data sheets. The solution is being enhanced progressively in parallel with the deadlines for REACH implementation.

» Dangerous goods management

Any company wishing to transport a hazardous substance must first check what transport regulations apply. These vary from one country to the next, and can lead to stiff penalties and slow down the supply chain if they are not observed. When an order is received from a customer, TechniData CSM begins by performing a dangerous goods check for this delivery in conjunction with the company's SAP logistics components. For instance, if a customer in the U.S. orders a certain substance in Germany, employees receive information on the labeling and packaging required for the transport route, data on the permissible means of transport and confirmation that transportation is authorized.

The system then generates the correct transport documents, shipper's declaration and accident procedure data sheet, the latter even being automatically created in the languages of all countries that the load will be transported through and the truck driver's mother tongue. The shipping documents contain all dangerous goods information prescribed for the different means of transport, e.g. road, rail and sea and does so in a legally compliant form. This is possible because the system stores the dangerous goods data centrally.

» TechniData CLEO: Legal content

We offer you a fully integrated package of legal content for SAP EH&S with information on new laws, phrases, expert rules and safety data sheet report templates. The solution enables you to meet regulatory requirements worldwide relating to product safety, the management of dangerous goods, and labeling. You can use TechniData CLEO to optimize your processes for managing chemical substances by integrating these completely into your company's business processes. This saves you time and money. TechniData CLEO helps you to satisfy the requirements as cost-efficiently as possible.

» Label management

TechniData CSM offers companies a standardized and centralized method for planning, generating and managing labels to meet every requirement. If a company puts a hazardous substance into storage or sells it on, this must feature a legally compliant label. Different labels are required for transport depending on the packaging used and labels vary depending on the customer and destination country. The same product may therefore easily require half a dozen different labels, some containing information on hazardous substances or dangerous goods or even additional data such as barcodes or batch numbers.

If an employee is processing a shipping order, the system automatically generates what is known as a label tree, which shows the different labels and quantities required for packaging and transport. Labels are largely generated automatically, with the dangerous goods data being incorporated in the label design.

The system's multilingual features are also extremely useful. If required, the solution can even generate a label with Arabic, Cyrillic or Japanese characters. When it comes to meeting special requirements, e.g. if the customer's logo is to feature on the label, employees can add this easily with the design tool. The system archives a history of all labels generated, a highly practical feature enabling employees to access ready-created labels if a customer requests the same delivery a second time. Companies can also utilize the solution to create labels for product innovation, engineering, design and quality management. What's more, these can be tailored precisely to the company's very specific needs.

» IUCLID 5

The European Chemicals Bureau (ECB) provides IUCLID, a database for managing 'existing substances'. The database contains all the data sheets provided by the industry in accordance with EEC regulation no. 793/93 governing the evaluation and control of the risks of existing substances. The regulation requires the industry to submit all readily available data pertaining to high production volume chemicals (HPVCs). For more information on IUCLID, see IUCLID 5
