News DetailsTechniData CLEO – Ready for GHS in the US January 05, 2010 OSHA’s Proposed Adoption of GHS standards expected to change Existing Hazard Communication Requirements Building upon its leadership position and expertise in supporting GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling)requirements in the EU and Asia-Pacific, TechniData is poised and ready to assist customers with OSHA’s proposed adoption to conform to the GHS standard for classification and labeling of chemical substances within the U.S.
As a result of the OSHA proposal, the existing Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) will need to be modified. Currently, there is a comment period for the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in effect until December 29, 2009, with a proposed implementation of the final rule in 18 – 24 months. While OSHA’s goal is to ensure that the protection provided under the current HCS is maintained, there will ultimately be changes to the requirements and hazard determinations that are part of the existing HCS. These changes can have a significant impact on how companies evaluate and classify their products, author Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDS), transport, distribute products, and provide information to customers. TechniData has been continuously expanding its CLEO regulatory content offering to align with the interpretation and adoption of GHS in various regions and countries.
